Batten down the hatches!

Ian has learned to crawl! And he is very excited about it! Tonight he was eyeing the cat in his path. He is grabbing at kitchen drawers, laundry baskets, etc. Time to baby-proof the house!
Also he has two teeth popping up. Today he had a screaming fit because he was in pain. The cute toothless grin will be gone very soon! Sad.

Monday morning was very exciting. Ian & I were leaving for school/work a little late that day & as we were pulling out of our driveway, we saw a 2 year old bear! He was going thru the neighbor's garbage. I did NOT get out of the car to take this photo!

Busy, busy bees!!

Team Sorenson has been a very busy family! As you read before, we were in Leavenworth for 4th of July weekend. Then July 8-11 Dirk went to Leadville, CO to train for his upcoming race. We all saw each other for a day & half, and then Ian & I were off to Atlanta for the Gift Show from July 13-17. Again, he was a perfect angel on the plane ride. Grannma Kay joined us in Atlanta on the 14th. The weather there was hot & muggy. Ian & I got caught in a huge rain storm our first afternoon there. My hair looked like I had just stepped out of the shower! Ian's legs were wet, but I'm sure it felt good to him because of the heat. Wed, July 14 Ian & I walked the Gift show. We did pretty well just the two of us. When our work day was over, it was time to meet up with Grannma Kay, who had just flown in from Seattle. The three of us went to dinner at Pittypat's Porch, Southern food. It was GOOD! Fried chicken, collard greens, black eyed peas, biscuits; I had a mint julip. It was all so good!! The place was kind of funky & southern. Thursday Ian & Grannma Kay joined me at the market. On this day we snuck in a stroller. Other mom's were asking us how we got a stroller in...we felt kind of guilty. But my back felt a lot better about it! At the end of the day, all three of us were exhausted, so we went for a swim in the pool, which Ian loved! Then we went back to the hotel room & had room service. On Friday Grannma Kay & Ian stayed at the hotel till 2:30, while I went to the market by myself. This was very productive for me. They had fun reading, playing, napping, trying to crawl & Ian ate bananas (his favorite). They joined me in the afternoon. It was hard to get anything done & get from showroom to showroom because everyone would stop us to talk to Ian or tell us what a cute baby he is! It actually got a little old! Friday night we went to a Turkish Mediterian restaurant. The food was delicious! The waitress was wonderful & she was actually from Turkey. There was a belly dancer which Ian loved (& she liked & danced for him!) Even the owner came over & talked with us for awhile. It was a really neat evening! Saturday morning Ian & I got up & flew home. Grannma's flight wasn't till late in the day, so she spent the day napping & reading. It was a great week & successful market!
As for Dirk, he hasn't been home all weekend! He & his dad have been riding the STP--Seattle to Portland bike race. They are doing it in two days. Saturday night they rode to Centralia. Sunday they are riding to Portland, and then taking the train back to Seattle, where Ian & I will pick them up. That's not all!! Dirk is headed to Vegas this week for work! Then in August, Dirk, Ian, Neal & Ilene & I are all headed to CO for Dirk's bike race! Busy, busy bees!!!
One more thing...we have been trying to get Ian to crawl. He can scoot backwards. And he gets up on his knees & rocks back & forth. Last night he was able to take two "steps" crawling!! Very exciting!!

Ian is 6 months old!

Today Ian had his first "solid" food! He had a very soupy-cereal mix. He didn't really make a "yucky" face, in fact he wanted more! Most of it ended up on his pants. Tomorrow we'll try a little more cereal so it's thicker. Next week we can try veggies! Last night we went out for dinner & he sat in a high chair for the first time! He sat up great! Speaking of sitting up, he has been really trying to sit up on his own. Our favorite place to practice is on the bed so when he falls over he has a soft landing. He thinks it's pretty funny!
Today I went to his first Parent/Teacher conference. His teachers, Ms. Keila & Ms. Ciana, were both there. They said he is a happy boy, likes to do the arts & crafts, likes to roll over, pays attention when they read. They are working on helping him sit up. I showed them how he can stand & hold onto something.
On Wednesday, June 2 he went to the dr. for his 6 mo. check up. He is in the 50th percentile still. He is gaining weight & growing normally. He is also developing "normally," ie. rolling over, trying to sit up & stand up, "talking," laughing, engaging, etc.

A Good Day

Today Ian & I "Skyped" with Granmma & Granpa Klein. He got a big kick out of it! If you don't have Skype, you need to get it. It's free & you can see the person live! He even sat up on his own for a few seconds! He's getting much better at this! I think by the time we get our family photos done (June 26) he'll definitely be able to sit up on his own!
Then we cleaned house. Ian was a BIG help! in that he was a good baby & kept himself entertained while I cleaned. When the rain let up we went for a run. It was a good run! Now we are having some family time, so I am going to sign off.

Ian's Art Show Debut

Ian has had a rough couple days; he's had a fever. Yesterday I was taking him to daycare & as I was handing him over to his teacher I noticed he was hot. His temp was 101.0, so away we went... Today the fever is gone so far. He was a little fussy, but overall was a good baby even though he didn't feel good.
This Saturday is an "Art Show" at his school. Grandma & Grandpa Sorenson and Gramma & Granpa Klein are all coming down to visit, see Ian's art & have lunch with us.

Ian seems to really be developing well. He turns his head when you call his name (it takes a few tries, but he does respond); he really grasps things well--toys, rattles, his pacifier.
Last weekend we all went to Leavenworth. It is one of our favorite places! We left North Bend about 9:30 am, had lunch at Uncle Uli's, hung out at the Fallons, saw the Gillespies. Dirk, Ian, Coco & I went for a lovely run along the irrigation ditch. It was beautiful! The weather was nice! Dirk then went for a bike ride. After dinner we headed back home.

Each week there's something new

Each week there's something new with Ian. Last week he discovered his feet. He has spent all week doing the "Happy Baby" yoga pose--grabbing his feet & holding his legs up. Today he was really playing with the toys dangling from his car seat. He used to bat at them & I don't think he really realized what he was doing. Today he actually was grabbing at it & hanging onto the toys. He also has started to "sing" with the radio. I tested this today to see if he was just babbling or really singing with the music. When I turned off the radio, he stopped "singing," when I turned it back on, he started up again.

The Very Talented Mr. Ian

What is it with little boys taking their clothes off?! Mr. Ian has discovered how to take his shirt off (almost). While awake, he pulls at his shirt & pulls his sleeve down. Well, Friday when I went to get him from his nap and found this:

Ian is 4 months old today!

Time is going by so fast & he is really growing & learning new stuff! We are really enjoying our baby boy! Today he went to his 4 mo. "well baby" check up. He weighs 15 lbs 14 oz, is 25-1/4" long. He is right on schedule for his development & everything that Dirk & I "worry" about is normal for a 4 mo. old baby (sneezing, coughing, only eating for 15 min, etc). He had to get shots, which made him cry, but that only lasted about 5 minutes. By the time we were at the car, he stopped crying.
This weekend is Easter. We are going up to my mom & Marv's. Should be fun; wish the weather was going to be better!
